S-HELP is a FP7 STREP in the Security Action Line starting on 1 February 2014 and lasting three years. It involves ten partners and targets the management of cross-border disasters. Large-scale disasters do not respect borders, a lot of people will die and the long-term consequences from economic to mental health can for years devastate the affected population. Healthcare practitioners and services respond to emergency situations but they are sometimes overwhelmed often requiring rapid decision-making. The S-HELP Decision Support System (DSS) will provide a unique mechanism to assist stakeholders and end-users to work together for coordinated, effective and evidence-based decisions at all stages of emergency management. The tools delivered by S-HELP will result in improved preparedness and response of health services involved in large scale and/or cross border emergency situations.
