Erich Weichselgartner received his PhD in Experimental Psychology in the Human Information Processing Laboratory at New York University, USA and subsequently did his postdoctoral qualification work (Habilitation) at Regensburg University in Germany. Among Weichselgartner’s interests in psychology are early human information processing and the theoretical aspects of psychological measurement. In his positions at the Leibniz-Institute for Psychology and at the Fraunhofer Society Weichselgartner utilized his professional experience in computer science and in information science and his knowledge in psychology to help develop high quality information systems for the scientific community. Weichselgartner received several grants by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and the Leibniz Association (Leibniz Competition).

Main Areas of Research:

  • Elementary Human Information Processing
    • Attention, Memory, and Perception
    • Results: The influence of attentional and perceptual factors on human (memory) performance; temporal characteristics of very early information processing; mathematical attention models
  • Human-Centered Digital Research Support Systems
    • Digital Scholarship; Open Science; Knowledge Publishing, Cross-Lingual Systems
    • Results: Methods and procedures for scientific content aggregation, processing and delivery; key factors of openness facilitating knowledge accumulation (primary focus on research data sharing); facilitating multi-lingual information access.
